North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health

North Coast Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (NCACCH) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. NCACCH provides health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members residing in the Sunshine Coast and Gympie region of Queensland. Their core business is to bring the status of Indigenous health up to mainstream standards by providing high quality and accessible primary health services to community members.

MedicinesEd was contracted to deliver a series of yarning circles across the region for community members and Aboriginal Health Workers. This covered general medicines management topics, along with using medicines for COPD (lung disease), diabetes and cardiovascular (heart) health.

All participants found the content easy to understand and would recommend the yarning circles to others.

Participants’ level of confidence also improved in the following areas:

• 83% of participants felt more confident understanding the pharmacy label on their medicines.

• 100% felt more confident asking their health care professional about their medicines.

• 83% felt more confident knowing where to find trusted information about their medicines.
