Wentworth Healthcare
Wentworth Healthcare is a not-for-profit organisation striving to improve the health and wellbeing of people in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Penrith areas of New South Wales. As the provider of the Nepean Blue Mountains Primary Health Network, Wentworth Healthcare aims to support older adults to remain healthy and live at home for longer.
MedicinesEd was commissioned to deliver a series of face-to-face and online Consumer Medicines Literacy workshops as an initiative to empower older people to improve their medicines literacy and proactively manage their own health with confidence. These workshops were developed using a co-design process involving representatives from the local communities.
Following the series of workshops peoples’ ability to interpret all aspects of a pharmacy label increased by 48%.
After coming to the workshops, 62% of participants indicated they were more likely to ask questions of their healthcare professionals about medicines.
Participants’ level of confidence also improved in the following areas:
•73% of participants felt more confident understanding the pharmacy label on their medicines.
• 75% felt more confident asking their health care professional about their medicines.
• 77% felt more confident knowing where to find trusted information about their medicines.
